The 'Second Italian-Canadian workshop on New Science with Next Generation Light Sources' was held on the 4th and 5th of November 2019 at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste. The meeting was opened by Prof. Alfonso Franciosi, CEO and President of Elettra, welcoming the participants and describing the plans for the upgrade of Elettra to Elettra 2.0. This was followed by a presentation from the CEO of the CLS, Prof. Rob Lamb, on the strategies adopted in Canada for arriving at the CLS 2.0 followed by detailed descriptions of the planned science (Silvano Lizzit - Elettra), and machine designs for the new facilities (Emanuel Karantzoulis - Elettra, Mark Boland - CLS, Les Dallin - CLS). |
The technical program ranged over many aspects of the new science which will become available with the next generation of synchrotron light sources: from infrared to hard x-rays, light sources (undulator design and monochromator concepts), EXAFS, microscopy, time resolved techniques and many other aspects of advanced machines.
